Murphy naively believes if he works on the election, he will finally be able overcome the guilt and remorse he bears for his days as an IRA volunteer. Following the successful election for Sinn Fein, Ian returns to Cork exhausted and still burdened by guilt. His new friend, Oisin O'Leary, convinces Ian he can fulfill has obligation to mentor William and make an act of contrition to the Irish people by writing a memoir stage play. Ian's play is presented and at the closing curtain, he offers it as his act of contrition to the Irish people. DEAD RECKONING is the third and final book in the Ian Murphy Irish Troubles series.

Rex Owens published his first novel in the Irish Troubles Series, Murphy's Troubles, in November 2013, the second, Out of Darkness, in June 2015, and the third, Dead Reckoning, in April 2018. His fourth novel, The Life and Times of Rowan Daly will be published in May 2021. UW Madison writing instructor Christine DeSmet describes his writing as cinematic. Rex is very active in supporting local libraries. He serves as the President of both the Sun Prairie Public Library and the Dane County Public Library. He is also the discussion leader for the Wednesday Afternoon Book Club which meets monthly. He supports authors as the host of the award-winning radio talk program My World and Welcome to It, which airs on the first and third Monday every month at 10:30 am.
