The work "Decentralization as a factor for development of local self-government" is dedicated to the problems of decentralized local self-government, based on a comparative analysis of three municipalities from three neighboring countries - Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. The study is focused on decentralization processes as a factor for the development of local self-government and on the effectiveness of local self-government in the countries above in terms of their membership in the European Union. The book analyzes the opportunities for improvement of local self-government through a vertical and horizontal approach for supporting decentralization, established through cross-border research of citizens' attitudes and administrative capacities. The methodology includes content analysis, situation analysis, SWOT analysis, statistical methods and statistical processing and data analysis with SPSS, sociological method - a survey conducted at the civil society level, local and state administration in Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. The work consists of 11 chapters.
