Writing this book put me in some dangerous, irreverent territory. I was surprised to find Christ there. After countless hours of interviews with people who have deconstructed Christianity, Preston Ulmer found that many were told they weren't Christian before they chose to leave their faith. Exiled before exiting. Pushed out for wrestling. Called "trouble" for calling out the tension. If you look closely, you'll find that Jesus lived out his faith this way too, deconstructing the parts of religion that we had gotten wrong in order to portray God more clearly. Some people loved him for it. Others crucified him. And his followers are experiencing similar reactions today. So how do we relate to friends and family who have become skeptical of beliefs they were taught in church? In this case, we renew our minds, which might include rethinking everything we thought we knew for the sake of the unconvinced (Romans 12:2). Are you ready to deconstruct your faith and discover Jesus?
