The new millennium brought with it new challenges that, today more than ever, are evident to the eyes of the world. Military doctrines, war against terrorism, holy wars, ideological wars, economic wars... Yes, all this and more. But, what is really in the background, the real present threat, is the war for resources. Fresh water, fertile land, hydrocarbons, minerals, biological diversity, are all that states need and crave. These strategic natural resources are scarce and, with climate change, destructive human activity and overpopulation, their scarcity is increasing, which inevitably brings with it an increase in their value and the acquisition of power by their possessors. However, these resources are widely available in the American Southern Cone, especially in Argentina, therefore, this paper investigates the relationship between military doctrine and Argentine defence policy during the first two decades of the 21st century, focusing on the Doctrine of Natural Resources Defence, as it is a regional and innovative vision.
