What made the American intervention into Iraq so necessary? Was that a 'war justly motivated'? What were the pushing factors and a fortiori the less pronounced hinder interests in that intervention? There are as many authors as many theories concerning the causes of the intervention, but one thing is for sure - there is no concert among them. President George W. Bush emphasied three main factors: the presence of WMDs on the Iraqi territory, the violation of human rights and other fundamental principles by the Iraqi government and the support given to different terrorist organisations. However, experts believe other motivational factors behind the intervention with a particular regard to the Ameican oil interests in the Middle East region. In this research, I went a bit further and beside analysing the question of American oil interests, I presupposed the presence of some normative intentions behind the intervention. Both factors have been analysed in a more detailed way. The oil question is supported by a quantitative analysis, while the normative question is seen more on a theoretical frame.
