The aim of this book is to find out what the parents of pupils at a school in the rural region of São José dos Pinhais think of democracy. A structured questionnaire was drawn up with open questions and the methodology is qualitative and descriptive. The discrediting of democratic institutions and the behaviour of Brazilian political actors denote distrust on the part of the population. This study leads to the conclusion that there is no failure in the concept of democracy among the parents of students in the rural region and that the desire to return to the regime of military dictatorship is due to the failure of the democratic regime to fulfil its function.
