Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an airway disorder characterized by airway obstructions that are not fully reversible. The main cause of COPD is cigarette smoking; however, not all smokers are susceptible, as immunological responses have a major role in the development of the disease. In particular, dendritic cells (DCs) play an important role in the development of COPD; however, their role is still not fully understood. In this booklet I am highlighting the possible role of DCs in the disease progress in studies that used human, animal or cell culture models.
