Psychological mistreatment of the elderly is very common in our culture and we must eliminate all these stereotypes for a better quality of life in this age group. Several studies have found that there is a relationship between the degree of depression and psychological mistreatment, although it does not mean that mistreatment is the cause of depression. It is of utmost importance to break down stereotypes and all the prejudices that keep our society enslaved, affecting in an important way older adults. The health system should implement a program aimed at active aging.
