Er hielt Lehrtätigkeiten an verschiedenen Gymnasien und als Dozent an der Hochschule St. Gallen inne, ist Mitbesitzer des Büros culterra (Landschaftsplanung), Geschäftsführer des Verbands Geografie Schweiz, Redaktor der Verbandszeitschrift GeoAgenda, Autor von Wanderbüchern, freier Journalist und Fotograf.
