The Koine is thought to be a recension of the fourth century which flattens out the New Testament text in regard to style and contents. This hypothesis is shown to be an unreliable simplification.
The Koine arose in a long process of development, which already began in an early period and reached its final form in the ninth century. Methodologically and historically, a new beginning in the study of the textual history of the New Testament has been made here.
An extensive text-critical commentary on the entire tradition of all important textual passages is provided. It forms the basis of the argumentation, shows the text-historical development in light of individual analyses, and is significant for exegetical studies.
