In manche Bücher muss man sich rein kämpfen. So auch ich in diesem SF-Roman, der den Auftakt der Durdanen-Trilogie macht. Die ersten 20 bis 30 Seiten waren durch ihre Wortschöpfungen und überbordenden Fußnoten ziemlich sperrig. Aber als ich dies geschafft hatte, öffnete sich mir eine phantastische neue Welt mit facettenreichen Schilderungen einer Odyssee auf dem Planeten Durdane, die ich auch der Fantasy zuordnen möchte. Die Geschichte ist sehr spannend erzählt und der Planet Durdane mit seinen vielen unterschiedlichen Gesellschaftsformen birgt noch viele Geheimnisse, die, wie ich hoffe, in den zwei nachfolgenden Bänden aufgedeckt werden. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Ich wurde das Gefühl nicht los, dass diese deutsche Übersetzung aus den 70er Jahren arg gekürzt herausgebracht worden ist. Anders kann ich mir die vielen Text-und Zeitsprünge nicht erklären. Dennoch freue ich mich auch auf die Nachfolgebände.
