Ranolazine is used for the treatment of Angina pectoris, which has a short half-life of 1.4-1.9 hours. Ranolazine floating tablets were prepared by direct compression technique using polymers such as HPMC, Carbopol 934P and Chitosan. Tablets were evaluated for its physical properties, viz. hardness, friability, weight variation, In vitro Buoyancy, swelling studies, In vitro drug release and In-vivo gastric Residence time. Drug release kinetics was studied for zero order, first order, Higuchi and Korsmeyer-Peppas. Finally, it can be concluded that promising controlled release by gastro retentive floating tablets of Ranolazine was developed using a combination of HPMC K15M and Chitosan.
