The concept of radiation from microstrip antenna was proposed about three decades ago. Because of numerous advantages of these antennas over the conventional microwave antennas like light weight, low cost, low volume, planar structure, conformability to any surface, and compatibility with integrated circuit and solid state devices, such antennas are of great interest for a diverse range of applications in terrestrial and satellite communications systems. One of the interesting features of microstrip antennas is that they are capable of radiating power in linear as well as circular polarization mode. Recently, the development of a microstrip antenna with dual-band and dual polarization features has drawn considerable attention to the scientists and engineers for its important applications in SAR systems, mobile communications etc. The research interest of the author is thus focused on the development of such microstrip antennas for dual-band operations. The design and development of various microstrip antenna structures with dual-band operation capability has been discussed in this monogram.
