This book introduces two new joints, the H-joint and H-H joint, in steel pipe sheet piles (SPSP), to address problems related to traditional joints, the P-P, L-T and P-T joints. A design approach and construction method for the H-joint SPSP were proposed after conducting centrifugal model tests, laboratory tests, field full-scale tests and parametric studies using frame analysis method. Field full-scale tests were conducted to check the practicality of constructing H-joint SPSP, assess construction accuracy and demonstrate that the existing pile driving methods can easily be applied. A method of joining two long H-jointed pile was tested and is given. Full-scale tension tests and hydraulic conductivity tests of H-H joint were conducted with a view to applying it as a cutoff barrier in the construction of coastal waste disposal landfills. Performance of a proposed water-swelling paint was evaluated by hydraulic conductivity techniques and was found to meet technical standards evenafter 75% of the paint coat is lost.
