A method of joining two long H-jointed pile was tested and is given. Full-scale tension tests and hydraulic conductivity tests of H-H joint were conducted with a view to applying it as a cutoff barrier in the construction of coastal waste disposal landfills. Performance of a proposed water-swelling paint was evaluated by hydraulic conductivity techniques and was found to meet technical standards evenafter 75% of the paint coat is lost.

PROF. KIPTANUI JONAH ARAP TOO (PhD Kyoto University (Japan), Msc Tsinghua University (China) and Bsc JKUAT (Kenya), is an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical). He has taught, consulted, researched and published extensively and is currently the Registrar for Academics, Research and Outreach at Taita Taveta University, Kenya.
