Byron Noriyoshi Kunisawa, a Sansei (third-generation Japanese American), was born in the Internment Camp of Topaz, Utah, youngest of four siblings: two boys and two girls. Their mother, Shizue, was a single parent with sole responsibility of raising her four children.He was the first in his family to go to college and graduated from California State University, San Francisco with a BA in Sociology, a K-9 teaching credential, and a Masters in Educational Administration.He was an educator in the Palo Alto Unified School District and in the Cycle 7 Teacher Corps Project to develop teachers for low income communities. He was selected to a National Multicultural Drug Prevention Advisory Board for the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He co-founded the NIDA Advisory Board and the San Francisco Multicultural Training Resource Center in 1985. MTRC was awarded the California State Multicultural Aids Prevention Center contract in 1986.Kunisawa is an internationally recognized consultant and lecturer. His clientele included NASA, CIA, National Science Foundation, National Education Association, Department of the Treasury, National Forestry Service, City of Vancouver, Canada, United States Football League, and Ministry of Multiculturalism, British Columbia, Canada.He was awarded the NASA Public Service Award & Medal in 1994, and was Outstanding Global Diversity Speaker for the 2007 International Diversity Speakers Association in Mexico City.
