Restricted access to senior secondary stage of education, which is the entry qualification for higher education especially of the technical type, prevents them from coming out the economic, social and cultural backwardness. Even when children of the disadvantaged families enter these schools they do not have access to occupationally potent streams of Science and Commerce, there by restricting their chances of getting employed in modern industrial occupations, preventing them from establishing their own enterprise. These disadvantages restrain the development of scientific attitude and scientific and rational methods of approaching the social problems. The author explained the various factors viz., gender, religion, category, rural - urban residence, educational attainments of parents and grandfathers, per capita income, age of the student, medium of the study, etc., which determine the access to senior secondary stage of education and choice of occupationally potent streams of Science and Commerce at this stage of education. Thus this book evidently handy for the academicians, researchers, policy makers, parents and students.
