It is only a matter of time before people seek innovative techniques for further development. Nowadays development has become a part of the people¿s essential needs. Construction Industry is a booming industry and remains so with the continuation of the development process especially in the developing countries. Construction activities produce vibrations and noise that may extend thousands of feet away from the particular activity. People have become increasing intolerant of these effects. They complain to government agencies and oppose development projects. Their opposition is beginning to seriously affect the construction activities such as pile driving. Contractors are choosing alternatives to such construction activities to avoid the vibrations and noise. This is an unfortunate and uninformed reaction for three reasons: (1) the alternatives may be considerably more expensive, (2) the alternatives may produce comparable levels of noise and vibrations, and (3) the perceptions of people about the possible damage from vibrations and noise are generally wrong. This book provides a fair knowledge about noise and vibration while giving a justification for said third reason.
