Two reasons account for writing this book including an inclusion of Applied Theatre and Applied Cinema in typologies of sub disciplines of Development Communication and Social Change, and creating awareness of these fields' practice among university students in Cameroon in particular. It was therefore important to provide a general picture of Development Communication and Social Change (also termed DevComm), with a focus on demonstrating how Applied Theatre and Applied Cinema, as its sub disciplines, fulfil the Devcomm objective of enhancing the success of development programmes through a two-way communication process. On-going work in the fields of Applied Theatre and Applied Cinema in Cameroon is situated historically, theoretically and methodologically. The evolution from Theatre for Development right through to Cinema for Human Development (C4HD) in Cameroon exposes students, scholars and practitioners to varied perspectives and methodologies using case study analysis. This generates a statement about what avenues these fields afford not only students, scholars and practitioners, but also other development stakeholders, especially non-governmental and community-based actors.
