IBRAHIM ELBADAWI is Research Coordinator at the African Economic Research Consortium in Nairobi. He previously taught at Northwestern University, USA, and the University of Gezira in Sudan, and was a Visiting Professor at Yale University in the USA. He is on leave from the World Bank, where he worked in the Macroeconomic and Growth Division. His main research is on Subsaharan Africa. TRUDI HARTZENBERG works with the Southern African Regional Institute of Policy Studies of the SAPES (Southern African Political Economy Series) Trust in Harare, where she is the academic coordinator of a Master of Policy Studies programme for the Southern and Eastern African region. She has also been Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town and the University of Natal. Her research interests are international trade, regional integration, and industrial and competition policy.
