Though the Wireless LAN (WLANs) performance has improved tremendously in recent years, all the revisions and fixes have resulted in the standard becoming difficult to analyze. As the endeavor to reach gigabit speeds over WLANs keeps growing, the time to reflect on the direction we are headed dawns upon us. This book presents efficient schemes to optimize performance factors like throughput and latency while obtaining energy efficient communication. In this book we look at using a distributed yet contention free medium access control (MAC) to decrease latency. We also tackle energy efficiency issues. In the end we consider using clever modulation schemes which would lead to increased performance benefit.
