In the past one and a half decades the United States' (US) geo-strategic environment has fundamentally changed. In the early nineties of the past century, the monolithic threat from the former Soviet-Union ceased to exist. Despite the initial optimistic predications that a free and democratic world was now within reach, the collapse of the Soviet-Union did not live up to its expectations. The 9/11 events drew the US into the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT); a war that proved to be very different from the ones for which the US Armed Forces had been structured and trained during the past six decades.
