This document narrates a quality management strategy in the measurement system of an industrial machining shop, with the objective of promoting the development of metrological competences in the personnel that will allow internal and external evidence of competence in their measurement processes. The strategy developed could be summarized as follows: 1) awareness program on quality in measurements. 2) Diagnosis of metrological capabilities and 3) Training program and actions to develop metrological skills in personnel.Among the results, it was found that: studies on the bias of the instruments expose some problems, studies of repeatability and reproducibility at the beginning and end of the work show a decrease in the contribution of variation by the operators, evaluations after training show knowledge and ability to detect the main problems with measuring instruments (lubrication, bias, linearity, among others). The development of a maintenance and verification manual lays the foundation for the standardization of measurement activities.
