The plants of Umbelliferae family are used as a spice for their distinctive flavour and aroma; and also as carminative, laxative and digestant. Many Ayurvedic and Unani formulations contain these plants as ingredients. Detailed Pharmacognostical works have been reported, but their systemic chemo-profiling and estimation methods for their chemical markers are not reported. The present study is designed to provide chemo-profiling of volatile oils of Umbelliferous fruits and also a validated HPTLC-densitometric method for estimation of their biomarkers. These analytical methods will be helpful in determination of quality of individual drugs as well as herbal formulations containing these plants as ingredients.
