In a Soda lime Silica glass factory where container glasses are made raw materials are mixed to form the batch which is melted in a furnace (Regenerating Furnace). The molten glass flows at the temperature of between 15000c - 17000c (depending on the Raw materials used) through a throat to the working ends. The glass is received at a section in the fore heart called feeder, the molten glass now is pushed through an orifice by the aid of a reciprocating refractory plunger to the forming machine. The basic function of the feeder is to deliver an acceptable gob shape and weight to the forming machine. The feeder consists of the spout bowl where the glass is contained, the Orifice Ring, Refractory plunger which pushes out the glass, shear mechanism that cuts the glass into shape at various weights depending on the product to be produced, the Revolving tube mechanism. The refractory plunger is inserted inside the revolving tube and is held into position by the following accessories; the basic plunger mechanism, the plunger carrier and the plunger chuck. The plunger chuck comes in types as: double gob individual action, single gob and double gob quick change assembly (one side adjustment).
