The success of distance learning depends on the quality of the instructional material developed for that particular programme. For imparting science education equal weightage needs to be given for acquiring the practical skills. Hence a criteria should be developed to provide hands on experience to the individual distant learner for improving the laboratory skills. The present study is carried out with an aim to prepare self instructional material for selected topic of Biotechnology and introducing the concept of laboratory kit for effective learning of Biotechnology through distance education system.
