The term craniofacial anomalies literally encompass all congenital deformities of the cranium and face. More specifically, however, the term has come to imply congenital deformities of the head that interfere with physical and mental well-being. Some children are born with these deformities, while others acquire them through trauma or disease. When the infant has a congenital anomaly, there is significant anxiety in the parents about future and the ultimate results of treatment. Craniofacial orthodontics is the sub-specialty of orthodontics that focuses on the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary diagnosis and treatment planning of patients with special needs and birth defects. So this book indicates importance for an orthodontist to be aware of various craniofacial deformities so as to diagnose the deformities as early as possible for achieving better prognosis of treatment.
