This book presents a wide-ranging series of illustrative clinical cases that cover the main pathologies and areas of interest in diagnostic and therapeutic neuroradiology. The aim is to enable the reader to learn important lessons from real cases that exemplify the caseload and capabilities of a large, modern neuroradiology department. The cases are presented in a quiz format. Produktbeschreibung
For each one, the first page documents clinical and imaging findings, followed by questions concerning these findings, differential diagnosis, and other aspects. On the second page, the answers are provided, with concise explanation and discussion. Attention is also drawn to the relevant available literature. Most of the cases derive from the Department of Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Center of Porto (Portugal), which is staffed by a large multidisciplinary team providing cutting-edge services. In addition, some cases from other centers have been included to ensure wider representation of experience. The book will be of particular value for residents and fellows in neuroradiology, radiology, neurology, and neurosurgery.
Autorenporträt
João Abel L.M. Xavier is a Portuguese specialist in neuroradiology, certified by the European Society of Neuroradiology and the Portuguese College of Neuroradiology. He is current Director of the Department of Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Center of Porto, where he has been a staff member since 1994. He also is the Head Professor of Radiology at the University of Porto's Biomedical Sciences Institute and is visiting professor at the Master's degree in Medical Physics in the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. Dr. Xavier is a past president of the Portuguese College of Neuroradiology and a current member of the Portuguese Society of Neuroradiology's committee on interventional neuroradiology. He was president of the IIIrd and VIIIth congresses of the Portuguese Society of Neuroradiology (2005 and 2012) and of the Oporto Neuroradiology 50th Anniversary International Symposium (2016). His main interests are interventional neuroradiology, medical physics, and advanced MRI techniques. He regularly performs diagnostic and interventional procedures, including treatment of dural shunts, AVMs, carotid-cavernous fistulae and aneurysms, thrombectomy in ischemic stroke, and angioplasties.  Cristina Giesta Ramos is a Neuroradiologist specialist since 2008, after her residency in Neuroradiology at the Department of Neuroradiology of Hospital Geral de Santo António, Porto. During her residency, she did a period of six months as a visiting resident at the Department of Neuroradiology of Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. She is a certified neuroradiologist by the European Society of Neuroradiology and by the Portuguese College of Neuroradiology since 2008.Her activity includes diagnostic neuroradiology, participating in multidisciplinary meetings on CNS tumors and orientation of residents. In the academic area, she is involved in pre- and post-graduated teaching and mastering in courses orientated to other medical specialities. She has also worked as an invited assistant of Neuroanatomy at University of Porto's Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS -Portugal) in the period 2010-2016. Her main interests are Diagnostic Neuroradiology, particularly advanced MRI techniques, as perfusion imaging, spectroscopy and DTI and tractography for pre-surgical mapping in tumors and epilepsy. Cristiana Vasconcelos is an attending neuroradiologist in the Department of Neuroradiology of Centro Hospitalar of Porto. She received her medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University in 1997 and completed the neuroradiology residency at Centro Hospitalar of Porto in 2001. During her residency, she passed a short period as a visiting resident at division of Neuroradiology of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. Cristiana Vasconcelos main interests includes Brain and Head and Neck Disorders and MRI advanced techniques. She has published in some international journals, including American Journal of Neuroradiology, Neuroradiology, Cognitive Behavioral Neurology and Brain Structure and Function.
Rezensionen
"An easy to carry book of multiple illustrative cases spanning the field of neuroradiology is a great description of Diagnostic and TherapeuticNeuroradiology edited by Xavier, Vasconcelos, and Ramos. ... a book that covers a wide variety of neuroradiological entities in a quick overview and quiz format." (Judith Ann Gadde, Neurosurgery, Vol. 83 (04), October, 2018)

"This case-based neuroradiology book consists of 70 cases mainly from Portuguese neuroscience centres. ... This book would be suitable for those trainees preparing for their final FRCR examination, as well as those in subspeciality neuroradiology training. The case mix is excellent, with some great examples of rarer conditions." (RAD Magazine , September, 2018)
