The present investigation carried out to study heterosis, combining ability and gene action in okra. The experimental material comprising 21 hybrids, their 7 parents and 2 checks were evaluated in RBD with two replications during late Summer 2016-17. Observations were recorded on 11 quantitative traits. The magnitude of heterosis over better parent and standard checks for most of the characters in present study were highly appreciable. The magnitude of heterosis was highest in the crosses for YVMV incidence (%) over better parent in the crosses followed by number of branches per plant over better parent in the cross Pusa-A4 x Kashi Pragati. The parent Pusa-A4, BO-2, Parbhani Bhendi, Kashi Pragati and Phule Utkarsha showed good GCA and high heterotic response towards growth and yield contributing characters can be exploited in further hybrid development programme. Moreover, the crosses, Pusa-A4 x Phule Utkarsha, Pusa-A4 x BO-2, Pusa-A4 x Parbhani Bhendi deserve consideration for their further exploitation as commercial hybrids as they produced high heterosis, significant SCA effects and high per se performance for fruit yield per plant and most of the yield contributing characters.
