The book presents the theory of polyphony introduced by M. Bakhtin, after it was applied only on literary texts, specifically Dostoyevsky's, O. Ducrot approached this theory in a different way by distinguishing between three key concepts: the posed, the presupposed and the implied. First called "Dialogism", plolyphony could finally be put into analysis of any kind of everyday statements.
