The Diamond Harbour was named so by the British of rather renamed as Diamond Harbour by them was earlier the spot known as Hajipur. The Diamond Harbour is a turning point for the distributaries of the Holy Ganges. The river area Hoogly turns towards the South into the Bay of Bengal. Owing to this the river area gets deeper and wider. Thus the big ships comfortably dock at the Diamond Harbour. The Project site is located on the eastern bank of river Hoogly. Natural and manmade embankment is Present on the eastern bank. The area is a Diamond Harbour Tourist spot:natural resources river of Hoogly. Tube wells form the major source of potable water. The Sweet water lies in an aquifer at an average depth of 100-1200ft, below m.s.1 potable water is also supplied by the local municipality.
