Rezensionen
'Bryant has served British cartoonists well with several biographical compilations. including this volume's predecessor, which treated the period 1730-1980...Bryant's brief preface does not permit him to impart his vast knowledge of the field, but he points to some trends of British cartoonists in the 20th century...Entries are full, lively and well written and researched...A valuable work, recommended to all readers with an interest in British cartooning.' John Lent, Choice

'Coupled with his earlier Dictionary of British Cartoonists and Caricaturists, 1730-1980, Bryant's latest dictionary provides aficionados, academics, journalists and writers with a plethora of useful information about the creators of a vital art form...[it] is an essential reference work for all interested in graphic satire in Britain in the twentieth century.' Peter Mellini, Sonoma State University, USA

'Can be enjoyed in two ways: it contains nearly 500 biographical entries of cartoonists and caricaturists, both famous and forgotten, often with amazingly detailed descriptions of how the artists worked, and 100 illustrations, all in black and white, which have been well chosen and are mostly both unfamiliar and memorable...The Dictionary's text is workmanlike, useful and illuminating.' Ruari McLean, Times Literary Supplement

'An invaluable source of detailed information on the lives, careers and styles of nearly 500 masters and mistresses of the art. The occasional cartoon leavens the text, but this is for reference first and foremost.' Michael Kerrigan, The Scotsman

'The author of this invaluable dictionary...knows his stuff...It is packed with information... "A professional preoccupation with the topical is the surest passport to oblivion," said Osbert Lancaster, which may be why we have waited so long for this book. It was worth the wait.' Laura Gascoigne, Artists & Illustrators

'This is an excellent and much-needed book. It has been thoroughly researched by Mark Bryant who has compiled for the first time a comprehensive dictionary of British cartoonists and caricaturists in the 20th century...It is an indispensable book for all those interested in cartoon art and graphic illustration.' Lord Baker of Dorking

'Not simply art lovers but anyone interested in the evolution of the British press or 20th-century history and politics will appreciate this who's who of mainly political cartoonists from 1900 to 1995...loaded with biographical and other information on each of the artists featured.' The Good Book Guide
