S.M. Hashemi was born on Sep. 1967 in Qom, Iran. He completed master degree courses in animal sciences in 1997 at Isfahan University of Technology (Iran) and was granted Doctor of Philosophy degree in June 2013 in the field of Monogastric Animal Nutrition at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
