The 21st century has brought about technological changes worldwide. Anthropological research on this subject is just emerging and can barely hold the speed, with which new products and media are integrated to everyday life. This work gives an overview of the most recent technology-related political and economic changes in West Africa and their meaning for the African Society. Current literature from e.g. Political Studies and Development Economics has been included according to its relevance for this work. As a result of the need for new theoretical frameworks, the concept of a Digital Civil Society is introduced.
