Corticosteroids have been in use for over 50 years. Over time, they have become indispensable in controlling a variety of disease states. Topical glucocorticoids have both immediate effects which cause membrane stabilization and delayed effects which are due to glucocorticoids alteration of DNA transcription. Clinical effectiveness of glucocorticoids is related to its four basic properties antiproliferative / antimitotic effects, immunosuppressive, vasoconstrictive, and anti-inflammatory effects.
