However, since 1993 Dobson's ongoing research in often obscure sources has unearthed a substantial number of references to Scottish immigrants in America, Canada, and the West Indies, for the period 1625-1825. The quantity and the quality of these sources--located in Scottish, English, American, Canadian and Dutch archives--has justified this volume of more than 1,000 references to early Scots in the Americas, many of which were previously unknown to researchers.
