Discourse is a system of signs through which realities are reproduced and legitimated; a constructed system of arguments, ideologies and interpretations that shapes social practices, affecting the way we see things and talk about them - into which one is born and secondary discourses into which one is socialized over a lifetime. The book introduces apprentices with the basics of discourse analysis. It acquaints with learners to the main features of discourse, communication as actions, discourse in communication, discourse types, discourse connections, discourse analysis, discourse and cognition, discourse and culture, and familiarizes them with the most important concepts, the major issues, and some of the most important approaches to discourse analysis.
