Geboren am 31. März 1596 in La Haye/Touraine; gestorben am 11. Februar 1650 in Stockholm. René Descartes wurde in der Jesuitenschule La Flèche erzogen. Ab 1618 war er in Kriegsdiensten. Er lebte seit 1629 meist in den Niederlanden. 1649 folgte er einem Ruf der Königin Christine und lebte dann in Stockholm. Quelle: dtv Lexikon
