Distractions of the Heart is a collection of poems, reflecting on relationships, trauma, self-worth, and intimacy in an explicit form. Distractions of the Heart is a collection of poems, reflecting on relationships, trauma, self-worth, and intimacy in an explicit form. The structure of each poem was designed to give the readers the insight to an experience that they could relate to or empathize with. The experiences in these writings show how one can be easily distracted by someone else in a way that can heal or break ones heart along with exploring the mind, body, and spirit sexually and mentally. Some of the poems are created in a manner to have the readers question whether the person is a part of the heterosexual or LGBTQIA culture as most would argue that all our interactions within relationships arent the same. Through these writings, my hope is to open the eyes of the readers to these experiences and challenge the thought process that each of us can identify with the distractions we all face within relationships and situations in life.
Autorenporträt
What could I say about myself as an aspiring writer? I, Allisha Marie Minor, a dedicated mother who strives to teach her daughter that there are no limits to what you can accomplish for yourself. Since the age of 8 years old, I have been writing poems that initially started off as a rap in the formulation of a poem. It wasnt until high school where I developed a passion for writing and entered many contests. I had my first poem published on the front cover of a newspaper in high school. Also, a few publications of my poetry in books and on poetry.com between high school and undergraduate school. I can attribute the creation of my writing to many of my personal experiences as well as my experiences in graduate school for Marriage & Family Therapy. I hope to continue to challenge myself to push beyond the creative level I have set for myself thus far.
