Distribution power system service restoration is an emergency procedure in distribution to restore power to out-of-service area as soon as possible when a fault occurs in the distribution system. The restoration process is made by reconfiguration of the distribution network which is achieved by switching operation on switches of distribution network branches. Service restoration is a complex combinatorial optimization problem. This is because it is multi objective multi constraint optimization problem. That is there are multiple constraints that must not be violated while finding optimal or near optimal solution of the service restoration optimization problem. As a result, a more efficient approach is required to handle this combinatorial problem. In this book, a powerful intelligent evolution method, called Multi Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) is adopted for service restoration optimization problem. The performance of the method is tested on standard 69 bus system under fourdifferent fault conditions. The obtained results reveal that the proposed method is promising in the application of distribution power system service restoration.
