A psychological warren of memories and "what ifs" are presented in this first novel by the acclaimed poet John Latham. Traversing the line between reality and imagination, the sublime surrealism of Zak's slimy shuffling fits perfectly with the absurdity of his earliest experiences and the baseness of his present life. An Escher-like maze of characters follow his twisted memories of childhood encounters, the breakdown of his marriage, his revenge against his philandering wife, and the hopeful beginnings of a new friendship and a new life.
