Tandra Datta a étudié la botanique (B.Sc.(H)Botany) à l'Université de Kalyani (KU), au Bengale occidental, en Inde, en 2014 et a obtenu une maîtrise en botanique (2016) avec une spécialisation en taxonomie à la même université.Prof.Sobhan Kr. Sobhan Kr. Muherjee, FLS, lauréat de la médaille du jubilé de Linné décernée par la Suède, professeur de botanique à l'université de Kalyani, en Inde, est un taxonomiste de premier plan.
