Val Taube was born and raised in the former Soviet Union, where he also graduated from university. His professional experience as a historian has enabled him to develop a deep understanding of the KGB's work. He also draws from a well of personal experience, as his family has been politically active for generations. With Divided Empire, Val hopes readers can learn to identify and analyze the indicators of harmful propaganda in modern-day news sources.
