Dr. Joanne Holland, DVD and MD, spent nearly 40 years as a veterinarian in isolated spots in Alaska and Canada before starting her own practice in Madison, Wisconsin. At age 54, she opted to enter medical school. She opened a one-person medical clinic at 59 in tiny Drain, Oregon, in 2004. She still works there. Holland has two daughters and lives on a small farm in Oregon.
