The leadership team may then assist in engaging the church in worship, Bible study, assessment of the church's current reality, discernment of the vision God has for their congregation, and its movement toward the Promised Land of discipleship. The Leader's Guide for Does Your Church Have a Prayer? lays out a plan for selecting and equipping a task force and for presenting this program of revitalization to the congregation. A detailed, six-week program of sermons and Bible studies supports the pastor and the task force in prayerfully engaging the entire congregation in forming and implementing a twenty-four month strategic ministry plan. By applying biblical principles through this intentional process of congregational engagement, churches will understand their calling as they move from a wilderness of inward focus to God's Promised Land for Jesus' disciples.

Marc Brown is the Director of Connectional Ministries for the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served 24 years as pastor of small, mid and large churches in rural, suburban and urban settings. Churches where served as lead pastor experienced 50 to 100 percent growth in attendance and giving. Marc served 7 years as Richmond District Superintendent in Virginia. He chaired the Virginia Conference task force to implement a plan for beginning 250 new faith communities.
