Backyard poultry consists of a housing structure and pastures or runs allowing animals to exhibit their natural behaviours more freely compared to closed systems. The term free-range refers to poultry production systems in which the birds have continuous daytime access to pasture and thereby, sunlight and fresh air. Both exotic or local breed of the domestic fowl, Gallus gallus domesticus, is reared by ruraland urban house holders who use their eggs and meat as source of animal protein, farm manure income.

Dr Suhail Rashid Mir did his post graduation in 2010 from University of Kashmir and qualified NET-JRF (junior research fellowship) held by CSIR in December 2011. He did his Ph.D degree from University of Kashmir during which he published many research articles in national and international journals.
