This work aims to research, analyze and describe domestic violence experienced by women. Thus, we present the methodological path in which this research was built and which allowed us to significantly analyze the reality experienced by women victims of domestic violence in the district of Colatina - Espírito Santo, through descriptions of data collected at the police station between 2008, 2011 to 2018. The problem of the research on screen is: To understand why violence against women occurs in the district of Colatina. Therefore, as a result of the research, challenges were observed regarding the applicability of law 11.340/06. In recent years, discussions on gender issues have ensured the formalization of the rights of women victims of domestic violence, but the materialization of these norms is still a great challenge. Thus, guaranteeing the basic rights of women victims of domestic violence must be a priority, this subject must be rethought in an honest and deep way, with the implementation of policies that effectively combat the aggression and all kind of violence suffered by the victims.
