Sometimes a mirror shows us more than a reflection. In Harlem, New York, nine-year-old Dominique is a happy African-American girl living with her loving parents. One day, her construction manager father brings a mirror home. To Dominique, it looks like a regular mirror... until one day when she sees a young girl named Sarah staring back at her. And what's more - Sarah can talk to Dominique! But Sarah looks a bit different than what Dominique's used to. In the magic mirror, Dominique sees Sarah and members of her family working hard while wearing raggedy clothes. Cassie is an entrepreneur, Property Manager and author, who was born and raised in Harlem, New York. She studied Business in college and still lives in the city today. She is a wife, mother and grandmother. For many years, Cassie has been a story quilter and one of her quilts, called Welcome to My World, famously depicted an African-American man in a dress shirt, pants and shoes, doing a spread eagle on a brick wall. It was displayed in the public library on Fifth Avenue, New York City. Now Cassie has turned her attention to writing books and her first one, Dominique and the Mirror, is a children's story which also carries an important message. It could perhaps be described as a modern fairy tale and is the first book in a planned series. Cassie's favorite quote is 'never stop learning. Knowledge is freedom' and she uses that advice daily. She hopes that her books will continue to be read and remembered for a long time and that she can become a light that brings more humanity to our world.
