Donna Jean kept a journal that chronicled the years she spent moving around the American West from 1938-1968. Her intention was to live a peaceful country life, to raise a family, tend a garden and care for her animals. Instead, she found herself living in the hardscrabble conditions typical of another generation, while raising four children and trying to cope with a troubled man. She constantly faced the ever-present possibility of having to pack up and move somewhere new at a moments notice. Somehow, she was able to find humor and beauty in the midst of this instability and there was always the hope...that times would get better.
