For many men, their prostate is an obscure part of their body - hardly ever thought about until it starts giving them problems or until they are told by a doctor that they need further tests or a biopsy. The "Prostate Nightmare" usually starts when a 60ish man visits his doctor for a regular physical exam. A blood test for a substance called PSA and a rectal exam are usually the norm. If his doctor deems either result suspicious, the prostate nightmare begins. More tests and procedures are ordered and the clueless patient may join the ranks of thousands of men - losing his sexuality to the side effects of this nightmare. The patient is placed at the mercy of the medical establishment, subject to tests, procedures and medications that may not help him but may change his life forever. In my twenty plus years of practice as a natural health practitioner (naturopath) and herbalist, I have advised many guys and their partners numerous times. I have also been subject to lots of locker-room talk from my peers. It is surprising how many guys know almost nothing about the function or pitfalls of this very important male gland. These men are sitting ducks for misinformation. The worldwide result of the "Prostate Nightmare" is that many thousands of men have had their prostate glands surgically removed. These men are living with the side effects of this surgery forever. One of the quotes medical students hear on their way to becoming doctors is attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates. It is typically known as the Hippocratic oath. Quoted from his writings is the term "primum non nocere." Its translation from Latin to English is "First, do no harm." Unfortunately, many medical doctors minimize the side effects of the procedures they perform or the medications they prescribe. When a man is subject to an inconclusive test like a PSA blood test, he is often also subject to investigative diagnostic procedures that can have significant deleterious effects on his well-being. Prostate cancer can indeed be serious, but it is a well-documented in multiple peer-to-peer medical journals, that prostate cancer and other prostate conditions are highly subject to overdiagnosis and overtreatment. And, the treated patient is left with little recourse for recovering his devastated sexual ability. I am hopeful this book will save a few guys from succumbing to a prostate nightmare
