Martin Luther (1483-1546) war Theologieprofessor an der Wittenberger Universität. Die Veröffentlichung seiner 95 Thesen zur Kritik gegen den Missbrauch des Ablasses markiert den Beginn der protestantischen Reformation. Durch seine Übersetzung der Heiligen Schrift in die deutsche Sprache wurde die Bibel erstmals auch für Laien verständlich.
Martin Luther war ein überzeugter Anhänger der Kindertaufe - und ein leidenschaftlicher Vater. Mit Katharina von Bora hatte der ehemalige Augustinermönch sechs Kinder.
